Film Faster Community Standards
These Standards govern member conduct on Film Faster and in connection with Film Faster activities, events, and programmes. They apply to every member. Violating them can result in content removal, account restriction, suspension, or permanent disablement.
1. Professional Conduct and Harassment
Treat every member with professional respect.
Prohibited:
- Personal attacks, insults, or demeaning language in messages, posts, project pages, or opportunity listings.
- Sustained or unwanted contact after being asked to stop. Repeated messages to someone who has not responded or who asked you to stop is harassment.
- Using professional leverage — a role offer, casting decision, credit, or referral — to pressure someone into something they have not freely agreed to.
- Publicly naming-and-shaming another member over a private dispute instead of using the reporting system.
- Retaliation against anyone who reports misconduct or cooperates with a review.
Not harassment: professional disagreement, firm negotiation, a rejected application, constructive feedback, or a decision not to work with someone — without abuse.
2. Discrimination and Hate
Prohibited:
- Denying an opportunity, role, job, or collaboration based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, or veteran status — unless a protected characteristic is a genuine casting requirement disclosed in the opportunity.
- Slurs, dehumanising language, stereotypes, or coded references targeting a protected group.
- Content that promotes hatred or incites violence against a protected group.
- Using the platform to recruit for groups whose purpose is to discriminate against or harm protected groups.
Casting is not a blanket exception. Specifying age, gender, ethnicity, or disability for a genuine creative requirement is legitimate when disclosed. Using casting language as a pretext for discrimination, or excluding people from crew or business roles using protected characteristics, is not.
3. Fraud and Misrepresentation
Prohibited:
- Fake casting calls — posting a casting call that does not represent a real production, or that exists to collect headshots, personal data, or unpaid labour without genuine intent to cast.
- Fake crew jobs — posting a job listing that does not represent a real, funded position, or that exists to collect free work, unpaid "tests," or resumes under false pretences.
- False credits — claiming a credit you did not work on, or inflating your role (associate producer listed as producer, second-unit director listed as director). Credits must be accurate and verifiable.
- Impersonation — creating a profile that misrepresents you as another person, living, dead, or fictional, designed to deceive.
- False claims about financing — stating a project is financed when it is not, or claiming investor/distributor/production company attachments that are not real. "Shopping" a project as financed when seeking financing is misrepresentation.
- False claims about distribution — claiming a distribution deal, streaming attachment, or festival commitment that does not exist or is preliminary and unconfirmed, to attract crew, talent, or investment.
- False claims about attachments — listing talent, crew, or directors as "attached" when they are not, or presenting wishlist targets as confirmed.
- Fake verifications — displaying or claiming any verification or trust signal not granted by Film Faster, or that has expired or been revoked.
Every project, opportunity, and profile must represent the truth as the member knows it.
4. Casting and Employment Safety
Prohibited:
- Sexual favours in exchange for roles or work — conditioning, implying, or suggesting that a role, job, credit, introduction, or opportunity is contingent on sexual contact, romantic involvement, or any intimate favour. Applies to casting and crew hiring. No exception, no "joking" exception.
- Inappropriate audition requests — requesting auditions in private residences or hotel rooms; requesting scenes not disclosed in advance; requesting improvised sexual or intimate content not in the sides; recording auditions without disclosure.
- Undisclosed nudity requirements — posting a casting call involving nudity, simulated sexual content, or intimate scenes without clearly disclosing this before actors submit.
- Bait-and-switch compensation — advertising a role as paid then revealing it is unpaid, deferred, or "back-end" after application or casting; advertising a rate then reducing it after agreement; replacing a paid arrangement with unpaid after work has begun.
- Undisclosed compensation — posting an opportunity without stating whether it is paid, unpaid, deferred, or copy-credit-meals.
- Coercive contract terms — pressuring someone to sign under time pressure without review, or inserting undisclosed exclusivity, image rights, or non-compete terms.
- Retaliatory non-hiring — blacklisting or threatening to blacklist someone for refusing unwanted advances, reporting misconduct, or asserting their rights.
Casting calls must state: the production, the role, whether it is paid and at what rate, whether nudity or intimate content is involved, and the audition location type. Listings omitting these may be removed.
5. Sexual Harassment and Exploitation
Prohibited:
- Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favours, or other conduct of a sexual nature, particularly by someone with professional leverage over the recipient.
- Sexualising professional interactions — sending sexual content or innuendo in messages the recipient has not invited.
- Using a Film Faster introduction or connection as a vehicle for sexual or romantic pursuit when the other party has not indicated interest.
- Exploiting access to a member's contact information, location, or schedule obtained through Film Faster for any purpose other than the professional collaboration that was the basis for the introduction.
- Grooming behaviour — building trust with a member, particularly a minor, for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
A single serious incident can result in enforcement action. No pattern is required.
6. Minors
This section has the strictest enforcement. Members under 18 (minors) are permitted but their participation is restricted.
A minor account exists in a limited state until guardian consent is recorded. Limited means: no casting profile; no receiving direct messages from adults they have not initiated contact with (an adult cannot start a conversation with a minor); restricted profile visibility.
Guardian consent: A minor must have guardian name, guardian email, and acceptance of these Standards recorded before leaving the limited state. A minor cannot enable a casting profile even with general guardian consent — casting profiles require a separate, informed guardian consent because they contain physical description data searchable by adult casting directors.
Audit: Every casting search that returns a minor is written to the casting search audit log with the minor flagged.
Prohibited in connection with minors:
- Contacting a minor outside a legitimate professional context established through the platform.
- Requesting or collecting a minor's personal information beyond what is necessary for a disclosed professional purpose.
- Sending any content of a sexual or inappropriate nature to a minor.
- Requesting that a minor audition in a non-professional location or under non-professional conditions.
- Suggesting or arranging any meeting with a minor not directly related to a disclosed professional production.
Legal note: Minors in casting and on film sets are separately regulated in many jurisdictions — work permits, set guardians, studio teachers, Coogan-law trust accounts, restricted working hours. Data processing consent ages vary by region. Film Faster's platform controls do not replace these legal obligations. A casting director or producer who works with a minor is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws. This is a legal review item, not something the build can settle.
7. Violence and Threats
Prohibited:
- Threats of physical violence against any person.
- Threats to damage property, sabotage a production, or interfere with someone's professional work.
- Inciting others to commit violence or harass a specific person.
- Glorifying real-world violence in a way that promotes it.
"I'm going to ruin your career" is a threat. Professional frustration is not.
8. Privacy and Doxxing
Prohibited:
- Posting another member's private contact information — home address, phone, personal email, personal social accounts — without consent.
- Sharing private messages or screenshots of private conversations without consent, in a way intended to harm, shame, or pressure someone.
- Using information obtained through Film Faster to contact, track, or approach someone outside the platform when they have not agreed.
- Stalking — monitoring someone's location, schedule, or activity in a way that is unwanted and persistent.
Bypassing a member's privacy settings by extracting and redistributing their information is a violation.
9. Intellectual Property
Prohibited:
- Uploading or distributing scripts, screenplays, treatments, pitch decks, look books, storyboards, or creative material you do not own or have rights to distribute.
- Sharing screeners, rough cuts, or festival cuts that have not been publicly released when you do not have the rights to share.
- Claiming authorship of material you did not create.
- Using another member's project description, logline, treatment, or creative material without attribution or permission.
- Distributing or facilitating access to pirated films, television, or industry materials.
If you receive a script, treatment, or pitch deck through a Film Faster introduction, you may use it only to evaluate the specific collaboration. You may not circulate it, pitch it as your own, or develop competing projects without the owner's permission.
10. Spam
Prohibited:
- Unsolicited mass messages — the same or similar message to many members who did not ask for it.
- Posting the same opportunity or listing repeatedly across categories.
- Using messaging, comments, or introductions for commercial promotion unrelated to a genuine collaboration.
- Creating fake engagement — using additional accounts to inflate views, applications, or apparent interest.
- Scraping or automated collection of member data.
Circumventing rate limits by using multiple accounts or timing messages to avoid detection is a violation.
11. Platform Manipulation
Prohibited:
- Creating duplicate or secondary accounts to evade moderation, enforcement, or a restriction on your primary account.
- Creating an account under a false identity to mislead other members.
- Using additional accounts to create false consensus, false interest, or false competition (bidding against yourself, applying to your own opportunity).
- Sharing account credentials or allowing another person to use your account.
- Attempting to access, scrape, or reverse-engineer platform data or infrastructure.
If your account has been restricted or suspended, creating a new account is a violation that may result in permanent disablement of all associated accounts.
12. Illegal Activity
Prohibited:
- Using Film Faster to facilitate any illegal activity, including fraud, theft, extortion, money laundering, human trafficking, child exploitation, drug distribution, weapons trafficking, or tax evasion.
- Posting opportunities involving illegal goods, services, or arrangements.
- Using the platform to recruit for or organise illegal productions, including unauthorised filming on property you do not have permission to use.
Film Faster will cooperate with law enforcement when required by law.
13. Unsafe Production Conditions
Prohibited:
- Posting opportunities for productions that knowingly require unsafe conditions — inadequate rest, extreme weather without protection, hazardous stunts without qualified supervision, or inadequate safety equipment.
- Recruiting crew or talent for productions that do not carry appropriate insurance where required, or that do not comply with applicable guild, union, or industry safety standards.
- Knowingly concealing safety risks from crew or talent being recruited.
A pattern of recruiting for unsafe productions may result in enforcement.
14. Payment Disputes
Film Faster is a professional network, not a payment processor or employer. Most professional arrangements are private contracts between members.
Film Faster is not automatically responsible for private contractual disputes — including disagreements over payment, credit, scope of work, deliverables, or termination. Those are matters for the parties to resolve directly, through their union or guild, or through legal channels.
However, patterns matter. A single payment dispute is private. A pattern of the same member failing to pay crew, bait-and-switching compensation, or defaulting on agreements — especially across multiple projects or members — may indicate fraud and may result in enforcement, including restriction or suspension.
Film Faster will not adjudicate amounts owed but will act on patterns of misconduct.
Enforcement
Enforcement actions: content removal, feature restriction, temporary suspension, permanent disablement. Severity corresponds to the violation. A first minor violation may result in a warning. A serious violation — involving minors, sexual exploitation, fraud, or threats — may result in immediate permanent disablement without prior warning.
The reporting system, moderation queue, and appeals process are described separately. These Standards define the rules; the enforcement process defines how they are applied.
Reporting
Report violations through the reporting system (accessible from member profiles, messages, opportunities, and the Safety Centre).
This is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact emergency services (911 in the US, or your local emergency number) before reporting to Film Faster.
